  • Clean the bore and the housing before fitting and remove any burrs or corrosion that would stop the sleeve going fully home
  • Press or drive the sleeve in square with a tool that bears on its end face rather than on its bore or edge, and seat it fully against its shoulder
  • Where the sleeve carries lubricant or a seal, make sure any oil hole lines up, and renew the adjacent seal or O-ring at the same time
  • Check that the shaft or fastener it guides moves without binding once the sleeve is home
