🔌 Function

• Clean the sensor tip and its mounting bore before fitting — these sensors collect a fur of fine metal debris, and a dirty tip or bore gives an erratic signal
• Fit a new O-ring or seal where the sensor uses one, lightly lubricated, and tighten to the figure in the workshop manual for your engine; the bodies are easily cracked and the threads easily stripped
• Where the sensor is adjustable, set the air gap to the clearance given in the manual for your engine and lock it there — most signal faults on these sensors come from an incorrect gap rather than a faulty sensor
• Inspect the teeth or trigger ring the sensor reads for damage, debris and run-out while access is available
• Check the connector and its pins for corrosion and green staining, make the plug up dry and clean, and route and clip the harness away from heat, chafe points and moving parts
