• Where the joint is made with sealant rather than a gasket, use the type the manual specifies, lay an even bead and pull the cover down within the sealant's working time
• Locate the cover on its dowels and tighten the fixings evenly, in the sequence and to the figures in the workshop manual for your engine
• Check any timing mark or pointer on the cover lines up as it should, and look for oil weeps at the front of the engine after the first run
