Provides the hardened pivot axis for the connected drive, steering or trim component while carrying radial and oscillating loads.

⚠️ Common Signs of Failure

  • Excessive drive or cylinder play
  • Corrosion or pitting on the pin
  • Seized pivot movement
  • Elongated mating bores
  • Knocking during trim or steering movement

🛠️ Service Notes

  • Check the pin and its bore or bush for wear, ridging and ovality — a pin worn into a step gives free play that shows up as slop in whatever it carries
  • Renew the bush, circlip, split pin or other retaining part that goes with it rather than reusing tired ones
  • Grease or oil the pin as the assembly requires, fit it square with a soft drift, and make sure the retaining device positively locks it; a pivot pin that can walk out will do so under vibration
  • Check the joint articulates freely through its full travel, without binding at any point and without noticeable play
