🔌 Function

Closes the end of a heat exchanger, cooler or coolant housing and holds the internal core and its seals in place.

⚠️ Common Signs of Failure

  • Coolant or oil weeping from the end of the cooler
  • Cover corroded, pitted or eaten through around the seal groove
  • Sealing face distorted so the joint will not hold
  • Fixings seized, or studs corroded into the cover
  • Coolant and oil mixing, or an oily film in the header tank

🛠️ Service Notes

  • It supersedes 3887421
  • Renew the sealing rings with the cover, and pressure-test the cooler before it goes back on the engine
  • Fit new fixings where the originals are corroded and tighten evenly across the face so the cover is not pulled out of shape
