🔌 Function

Transfers torque from the engine to the IPS drive while damping torsional vibration and transient shock.

• Cracked, separated or heat-damaged elastomer
• Clunking or vibration under load
• Fretting at bolt holes or pilot surfaces
• Misalignment or coupling runout
• Metallic debris or driveline noise from coupling deterioration

🛠️ Service Notes

• Check and set the alignment of the engine and drive before and after fitting a flexible coupling — it absorbs vibration and a small amount of misalignment, it does not correct a driveline that is out of line
• Handle the rubber elements carefully and keep them clear of oil, fuel and solvents, which soften and swell rubber and shorten its life dramatically
• Fit the coupling as a complete unit, use new locking hardware wherever the workshop manual for your engine specifies it, and tighten the fasteners to the figures in that manual
• Turn the driveline over by hand after assembly and check that it runs true, with no binding and no excessive free play
• Inspect the coupling whenever the drive is separated for any other reason; the rubber is the part that ages, and planned replacement is far cheaper than a failure at sea
