🛠️ Service Notes

• Always fit a new gasket, and take the old one off completely without scoring the joint faces — a plastic scraper and a residue-free solvent on aluminium, never an abrasive disc or a steel blade
• Check both faces for flatness, corrosion pitting and pulled threads before assembly; a gasket cannot bridge a distorted or damaged joint face
• Fit dry unless the procedure for your engine specifically calls for sealant — sealant on a gasket designed to run dry acts as a lubricant and lets the gasket creep out under clamping load
• Locate the gasket on its dowels or bolts and check every port, passage and bolt hole lines up before anything is tightened
• Draw the fasteners down in stages, evenly and from the centre outwards, to the figure in the workshop manual for your engine
• Handle the gasket flat and unfolded — a crease or a nicked edge becomes a leak path
