🛠️ Service Notes

• Always fit new gaskets, O-rings or sealing washers — these joints see hot oil and a reused seal rarely holds
• Check the pipe is clear before it goes back on; if the bore is coked or sludged, renew it rather than trying to clean it out, because a restricted return backs oil up and pushes it past seals
• Route the pipe so it runs downhill to its outlet with no kinks, sags or strain, and do not spring it into place to make the flanges meet
• Clean the sealing faces without scoring them, and tighten the flange or union fasteners evenly to the figure in the workshop manual for your engine — these often thread into alloy and strip easily
• Run the engine up to temperature afterwards and check the joints while hot, since a marginal seal will often only weep once everything has expanded
