🔌 Function

Cools the compressed air leaving the turbocharger before it reaches the cylinders, so a denser charge is delivered for the same boost pressure.

⚠️ Common Signs of Failure

  • Power down and black smoke under load as charge air temperature rises
  • High charge air temperature readings or related fault codes
  • Oil pooled in the cooler or at its outlet after a turbocharger problem
  • Coolant loss with no external leak found elsewhere
  • External damage, corrosion or flattened fins, or a leak found on pressure test

  • After a turbocharger failure the cooler holds debris and oil, so clean or renew it before the replacement turbocharger is run
