  • Soot tracking, or a black or grey stain radiating from the joint face
  • Flange face bowed, pitted or scored so a gasket will not seal
  • Cracks around a bolt hole or at a weld
  • Studs or bolts seized, stretched or snapped off in the flange

  • Renew the gasket and any single-use fasteners with the flange
  • Check the mating face for flatness before assembly - a bowed face will blow the new gasket out as well
