🔌 Function

Draws oil from the sump and delivers it under pressure to the bearings, galleries and cooling jets, so its condition sets the oil pressure across the whole engine.

• Low oil pressure, or a warning lamp that stays on at idle when hot
• Pressure slow to rise from cold start
• Rattle or whine from the front of the engine as the pump cavitates or its drive wears
• Rotors or gears found scored, chipped or with excessive end float on strip-down
• Metal debris in the sump or caught in the strainer
