🔌 Function

Turns with the timing drive and lifts the valve gear in sequence, its lobe profile setting when each valve opens, how far it lifts and how long it stays open.

⚠️ Common Signs of Failure

  • Tapping or a heavy knock from the valve gear
  • Poor starting, rough idle and lost power as the timing drifts
  • Lobes found pitted, flat-spotted or scuffed on strip-down
  • Journals scored, or the bearing shells worn through
  • Metal glitter in the oil or on the filter element

  • Check the engine serial number before ordering - fitment starts at A194126
  • Renew the followers or tappets with the camshaft; old followers on a new shaft wipe the lobes
  • Flush the oil galleries and change the oil and filter, since debris from a failed lobe travels through the whole system
