Carries inlet or exhaust gas through a change of direction between two components, sealing at the flanges at each end.

  • Corrosion, scaling or pinholing on the body of the elbow

  • Flange faces found pitted, distorted or cracked on strip-down

  • Fit new gaskets at both flanges and check the mating faces for distortion before assembly
  • Free off and inspect the flange studs and nuts first - heat-seized fasteners are what usually breaks during removal
  • At 4.487 kg support the elbow while the last fasteners come out rather than letting it hang on a gasket
