🔌 Function

Houses the thermostat and directs coolant between the bypass and the main cooling circuit as the engine warms.

  • Engine overheating, or running cold and never reaching temperature
  • Coolant weeping from the housing joint
  • Housing face corroded, eroded or pitted around the seal
  • Casting cracked at a bolt boss or a port
  • Thermostat found stuck or its seat damaged on strip-down

  • Renew the thermostat, its seal and the housing gasket while the housing is off - it is false economy to reuse them
  • Check both faces for corrosion pitting and clean out scale before refitting, then bleed the system properly
