🔌 Function

Absorbs the torsional pulses the crankshaft picks up at each firing stroke, damping them before they build into a resonance that could crack the crankshaft or the gear train.

⚠️ Common Signs of Failure

  • A new vibration or booming note that appears at particular engine speeds
  • Visible wobble or run-out of the damper as the engine turns
  • Rubber element cracked, swollen, oil-soaked or squeezed out of the joint
  • Outer ring shifted relative to the hub, so timing marks no longer line up
  • Accelerated wear or throwing of the belts driven from the front of the engine
