  • Smell of gas around the installation, or a gas detector alarming
  • Bubbles shown at a union by leak-detection fluid
  • Pipe corroded, chafed or dented along its run
  • Union nut found loose, cross-threaded or with a damaged seat
  • Rough running or loss of power where the pipe has become restricted

  • Gas joints are a safety item - leak-test every union with the correct fluid or a detector after fitting, and do not run the installation until the test is clear
  • Renew the sealing washers or olives at the unions rather than reusing them
  • Do not reshape or re-bend the pipe to make it fit; a work-hardened bend is where it will crack
