Provides the bolted and sealed joint face between two sections of the inlet or exhaust system, so they can be joined gas-tight and parted again for service.
⚠️ Common Signs of Failure
- Hissing or a soot fan spreading from the joint
- Flange face eroded, pitted or no longer flat
- Cracks radiating from the bolt or stud holes
- Studs corroded thin or sheared off in the face
- A gasket that blows repeatedly however carefully it is fitted
🛠️ Service Notes
- Renew the gasket and check both faces for flatness - a distorted face is what blows gaskets
- Renew corroded studs and nuts rather than reusing them
- Tighten evenly from the centre outward once the joint is drawn up
