Closes off a housing in the drive, keeping oil in and water and debris out while carrying whatever seals or bearings sit in its face.
⚠️ Common Signs of Failure
- Oil weeping from the cover joint or from a seal in the cover
- Water found in the drive oil, or the oil grey and emulsified
- Cover face found corroded, pitted or scored where the gasket seats
- Cracking at a fixing boss, or bolts pulled loose
- Sealing bore worn where a shaft seal has been turning in it
🛠️ Service Notes
- Renew the gasket and any seals carried in the cover whenever it is removed
- Check the cover face for flatness and the seal bore for wear before refitting - a worn bore will leak with a new seal in it
