  • Fretting, polishing or scoring on the bore
  • Sleeve cracked or spread open
  • Corrosion locking the sleeve to the shaft on dismantling

  • Inspect the shaft it grips for fretting damage - a sleeve that has slipped usually marks the shaft as well
  • Fit clean and dry or exactly as specified; a lubricated clamping face may not hold the intended grip
