Genuine Volvo Penta Silent Shift upper gear, weighing 20.865 kg and listed for 151 applications across V, DPS, FWD and D series engines and drives. It replaces the existing upper gear and its cone clutch with a multi-plate clutch for smooth, near-silent shifting, and mates with the lower gear of the drive already fitted. It is the unit listed against the 2.14 ratio on DPS and FWD drives, and the only one of the three with no SX listing at all - the SX column is blank against it. At 20.865 kg it is the lightest of the three listed here, and it consolidates four earlier references.

Carries the drive's input shaft and upper bevel gear set on a multi-plate clutch, turning engine rotation through ninety degrees and setting the drive's gear ratio.

• This unit is listed only against DPS and FWD drives on the 2.14 ratio, so an SX drive takes 23290085 or 23290086 depending on its ratio
• The upper gear mates with the lower gear you already have, so the ratio must match the drive
• 23290091 is the other 2.14 upper gear and is roughly twice the weight over a much wider fitment list, so check the fitment as well as the ratio
• Only the upper gear unit is changed - the existing lower gear is retained
• SX ratios apply from SX-A and newer, DPS ratios from DPS-A and newer, and all FWD versions are covered
