🔌 Function

Absorbs the twisting pulses the firing strokes put into the crankshaft, damping them before they build into a vibration that would crack the crank or the drive train.

⚠️ Common Signs of Failure

  • A rumble or vibration that appears at particular engine speeds
  • The damper visibly wobbling or running out of true with the engine idling
  • Rubber extruded, cracked or missing from between the rings
  • Timing marks on the damper found out of line with each other
  • Belts running off line, or repeated front pulley and belt wear

  • Dampers are life-limited items - renew at the specified interval rather than judging by appearance, because a degraded one still looks intact
  • Never weld, machine or attempt to repair a damper
  • Check the crankshaft front seal, pulley bolt and belt drive while it is off
