🔌 Function

Passes engine coolant through a finned core in the airflow from the fan, taking heat out of the coolant and dumping it to the air so the engine holds its running temperature.

• Coolant temperature climbing under load and settling again when the load is taken off
• Coolant dripping from a seam, a tank joint or a tube
• Fins bent, packed with debris or corroded away so air will not pass
• Discoloured coolant, or oil in the coolant if an internal cooler is fitted and has failed
• Core found scaled or blocked internally when flushed

• Clear and inspect the protecting screen and the fan before condemning the radiator - a blocked screen gives the same rising temperatures
• Renew the hoses and clamps while the radiator is out; they are rarely worth refitting
