🔌 Function
Filters the air entering the engine, holding back the dust and salt that would otherwise pass through the turbocharger and score the bores and rings.
⚠️ Common Signs of Failure
- Power down and black smoke under load as the element blocks
- Element visibly loaded, oil-soaked or wet through
- Turbocharger whistle or a change in intake note as the restriction rises
- Housing cracked, distorted or the lid not sealing, letting unfiltered air past
- Dust streaks on the clean side of the element or in the inlet ducting, which means the seal has been bypassed

- Check for dust tracks on the clean side of the housing before fitting - unfiltered air reaching the turbo will already have done damage
