Draws air through the radiator or charge air cooler so heat picked up by the coolant is carried away, with airflow rising and falling with engine speed.

- Coolant temperature climbing under load or at low boat speed
- Rumble, whine or an out-of-balance beat from the fan drive
- Cracks at the blade roots or a missing balance weight
- Blade tips clipped or rubbing the cowl
- Hub bearing rough or the fan wobbling when turned by hand
