🔌 Function
Mounts and locates the alternator on the engine, holding it square so the drive belt runs true and taking the belt tension into the block.

- Belt squeal or a belt that keeps throwing off its pulleys
- Belt edges frayed and black dust around the pulleys
- Alternator visibly out of line with the crankshaft pulley
- Bolts working loose or holes gone oval
- Cracks radiating from a mounting hole on removal

- Check pulley alignment with a straight edge after fitting, and renew the belt at the same time
- A bracket that has been loose is usually worn at the bolt holes as well as cracked - fit new rather than reaming
