⚠️ Common Signs of Failure

• New vibration through the hull or steering that grows with engine speed
• Loss of boat speed, or the engine over-revving for the speed it produces
• Chipped, bent or curled blade edges, or blade surfaces eroded by cavitation
• Fishing line or rope found wound in behind the hub

🛠️ Service Notes

• Wedge the blades or lock the shaft so nothing can turn while the nut is slackened or tightened, with the drive out of gear and the engine unable to start
• Clean the shaft and hub bore, check the splines or taper are unmarked, and grease them with Volvo Penta propeller shaft grease — this is what lets the propeller come off again next time
• Refit the thrust washer, spacers and hardware in the same order they came off, and use a new lock washer, tab washer or split pin rather than the old one
• Tighten the propeller nut to the figure in the workshop manual for your installation and lock it positively; a propeller that works loose is rarely found again
• With the propeller off, check the blades for edge damage and distortion and clear any line from behind the hub — have a damaged propeller reconditioned rather than run on
