Carries a toothed arc that meshes with a mating gear to move a component through part of a turn, rather than driving continuously.

  • Notchy, stiff or jerky movement of what the segment drives
  • Clicking or crunching as the teeth pass through the worn part of the arc
  • Lost motion or backlash at the end of travel
  • Teeth found chipped, rolled over or worn to a point
  • Metal particles in the oil or on the drain plug magnet
