🔌 Function
The filter cap closes the filter housing and seals it against oil pressure, while allowing the housing to be opened for element renewal. Its seal and thread condition determine whether the joint stays leak-free.

🛠️ Service Notes
- Fit the new seal ring with the cap and make sure the old one has been fully recovered from the housing — a doubled or nipped seal is the usual cause of a leak, or of air getting in, after a filter change
- Wipe the sealing land and the threads clean before assembly and lubricate the seal lightly with the fluid the housing carries rather than with grease
- Tighten to the figure in the workshop manual for your engine, or to hand-tight as the housing is marked; these caps are easily cracked or distorted and rarely need more than firm hand pressure
- Renew the cap if it is cracked, crazed, or has a damaged sealing land or thread — a hairline crack will let air into a circuit long before it ever drips
- Bleed and prime the circuit as the manual describes, then run the engine and check the cap and its seal under working pressure
