🔌 Function

Couples two splined shafts and transmits torque between them, while allowing a small amount of axial movement at the joint.

  • Clunk on taking up drive or changing direction
  • Vibration that comes and goes with load
  • Splines found rounded, stepped or fretted red-brown
  • Grease dried out or washed off the splines
  • Rotational play felt with both shafts held

🛠️ Service Notes

  • Check spline wear on the flanks rather than the tips - a sleeve can look sound from the end and be worn out
  • Grease the splines on assembly with a water-resistant grease and inspect the mating shaft for matching wear
