The seals retain lubricant and hydraulic fluid while preventing water and contamination from entering the assembly.

🛠️ Service Notes

  • Use every ring the kit supplies and replace them all in one go; leaving one original ring in place is the usual reason a rebuilt unit leaks again
  • Lay the kit out against the parts you remove so each ring goes to the right joint, as kits often contain rings of very similar size
  • Clean each groove and seat and check it for scoring, corrosion and old sealant before the new ring goes in
  • Ease each ring into place without stretching, twisting or dragging it over sharp edges or threads, and check it is seated squarely before closing the joint
  • Add no sealant unless the workshop manual for your engine calls for it, and tighten the joints to the figures in that manual
