🔌 Function

Removes oil mist from the crankcase gases before they are vented or returned to the inlet, so oil is not carried through the engine.

⚠️ Common Signs of Failure

  • Oil misting or dripping from the breather outlet
  • Oil found collecting in the inlet ducting or charge cooler
  • Raised crankcase pressure, pushing oil past seals and the dipstick
  • Element inside found clogged, collapsed or sodden
  • Drain line blocked so separated oil cannot return

🛠️ Service Notes

  • Check the drain line is clear before condemning the separator, as a blocked return gives the same symptoms
  • Renew the sealing gaskets at the housing joints when fitting
  • Investigate high crankcase pressure at the same time, since heavy blow-by will overwhelm a new separator too
