🔌 Function
Carries the engine oil filter and the passages that feed filtered oil on to the main gallery, along with the bypass and relief valves built into it.
⚠️ Common Signs of Failure
- Oil leaking from the housing joint or around the filter seat
- Low oil pressure warning, worst when the engine is hot
- Filter seal seat corroded or scored so the filter will not seal
- Cracks at the mounting bosses or a stripped filter spigot thread
- Bypass valve stuck open, showing as unfiltered oil and rapid contamination
