🔌 Function

Draws two flanged faces together with a wedge action all the way round the band, holding a tight joint that can still be broken and remade without disturbing the pipework.

⚠️ Common Signs of Failure

  • Hissing or blowing from the joint under load
  • Soot or a dark witness mark tracking out around the flange
  • Band stretched or cracked, or the T-bolt seized
  • Nut backing off repeatedly so the joint will not stay sealed
  • Flange faces fretted or bell-mouthed where the clamp has let the joint move

🛠️ Service Notes

  • Tighten evenly and in stages, tapping around the band as you go so the wedge seats all the way round
  • Check the flange faces before refitting - a clamp will not seal a distorted flange
