🔌 Function

Carries the shaft's load on hardened rollers, letting it turn with low friction while holding it in position against radial load.

⚠️ Common Signs of Failure

• Rumbling, growling or a whine that changes with speed
• Roughness or notchiness felt when the shaft is turned by hand
• Play in the shaft that should not be there
• Raceways discoloured, pitted or flaking on strip-down
• Metal particles or a bright sheen in the oil

🛠️ Service Notes

• Renew the bearing as a set with its mating race and the seal that runs alongside it
• Press on the correct ring - loading a bearing through its rollers ruins it before it has turned once
• Check the housing bore and the shaft journal; a bearing that has spun means one of them is out of tolerance
