Genuine Volvo Penta four-blade nibral propeller for Volvo Penta IPS 1, IPS 10, the rear half of the type TS4 counter-rotating pair. It is machined from the specially developed nibral (nickel-bronze-aluminium) alloy Volvo Penta uses for its IPS propellers, which gives minimum growth, excellent durability and corrosion resistance. Volvo Penta IPS turns the propellers round to a forward-facing position, so the twin counter-rotating propellers pull the boat through the water rather than push it, and optimal interaction between the front and rear propeller holds performance and fuel efficiency across the whole speed range. The rear propeller carries the patented flow deflector, which controls the water flow and minimizes pressure and wear on the propeller shaft seals.

🔌 Function

Runs behind the front propeller and turns the opposite way, recovering the swirl left in its wake as further thrust and cancelling the sideways pull a single propeller would produce. It is also the propeller the line cutter mounts to, and its TS4 designation has to match the front propeller for the engine to be loaded correctly.

• A grumble or buzz from the drive that comes and goes with load
• Slow acceleration and a boat reluctant to lift onto the plane
• Blade edges nicked, bent back or eaten away by cavitation erosion
• Rope, netting or fishing line wrapped between the propeller and the drive housing, sometimes with oil weeping from the seal behind it
• On a twin installation, one drive pulling different engine speed or load from the other at the same throttle
