⚙️ Key Features

  • Needle bearing from the Starting System group
  • 0.066 kg
  • Listed for 231 applications across MD, TMD, D, TD, AQD and TAD series engines

🔌 Function

Supports the rotating shaft on a bed of needle rollers, taking the side load in a small diameter so the shaft stays true while it turns.

⚠️ Common Signs of Failure

  • Whine or rumble from the starter while it cranks
  • Shaft play felt when the armature is rocked by hand
  • Bearing running dry or discoloured from heat
  • Needles found flattened, missing or bunched to one side
  • Bright scoring on the journal the bearing runs on

🛠️ Service Notes

  • Check the journal for scoring before fitting a new bearing - a worn shaft will destroy it quickly
  • Renew the bushing 240481 and the shaft key 240473 at the same overhaul where they are worn
