⚠️ Common Signs of Failure

• Fuel weeping, a wet film or a diesel smell around the fitting
• Air drawn into the fuel system at the joint, giving hard starting, rough running or loss of power
• Damaged, rounded or cross-threaded fitting, or a seat that will not seal however hard it is tightened

🛠️ Service Notes

• Work clean on the fuel side and cap the openings while the fitting is out — dirt introduced here ends up at the injection equipment
• Renew the sealing washer or O-ring rather than reusing it, and check the seat and the threads are clean and undamaged
• Tighten to the figure given in the workshop manual for the fitting; a nipple overtightened into an alloy housing distorts the seat and will never seal properly again
• Bleed the fuel system afterwards and check the joint for weeping and for air being drawn in, both with the engine stopped and running
