🔌 Function

Drives coolant round the engine and its coolers so heat is carried away from the cylinders and the head.

⚠️ Common Signs of Failure

• Temperature rising steadily under load, worst at high power
• Coolant dripping from the pump's weep hole
• Rumble, growl or squeal from the front of the engine
• Play felt at the pulley when the belt is off
• Impeller found eroded, corroded or loose on its shaft at strip-down

🛠️ Service Notes

• A weep hole that drips is the pump telling you its seal has gone, so renew rather than top up
• Flush the system and fit fresh coolant of the correct specification when the pump is changed, as debris from a failed pump travels round the circuit
• Check the belt, tensioner and thermostat at the same time, since either can produce the same overheating complaint
