🔌 Function
Drives the cooling fan and lets it slip or freewheel when full airflow is not needed, so the fan is only driven as hard as engine temperature demands.
⚠️ Common Signs of Failure
- Coolant temperature running high, particularly at low speed or on load
- Fan roaring continuously, or barely turning with the engine hot
- Fan spinning freely by hand when it should offer resistance
- Wobble, rumble or a rough bearing feel at the fan
- Silicone fluid weeping from the clutch body

- Check belt tension, the radiator core and the fan shroud before condemning the clutch - all three look like a slipping clutch
- Check or renew the fan hub while the fan is off
- Inspect the fan blades for cracks whenever the clutch is disturbed
