Forms a fixed block within the drive installation, locating the parts bolted to it and carrying the loads they pass through it.
⚠️ Common Signs of Failure
- Movement or play where the joint should be solid
- Knocking or clunking as load reverses
- Corrosion, pitting or scoring on the machined faces
- Elongated bolt holes and fretting at the mating face
- Cracks around the fixings found once it is cleaned off

- Check the mating faces and fasteners when it is out - fretting marks show the joint has been working loose
- Renew any stretched or corroded fasteners rather than reusing them
