🔌 Function

Links the engine to the gearbox while taking up torsional shock and small misalignments, so the firing pulses are not fed straight into the gear teeth.

⚠️ Common Signs of Failure

  • Clonk or rattle from the bellhousing at idle or on engagement
  • Vibration that varies with load rather than with engine speed
  • Rubber dust or fragments of element in the bellhousing
  • Element cracked, perished or oil-soaked on strip-down
  • Drive splines fretted where the element has gone slack

🛠️ Service Notes

  • Check engine mounts and alignment before condemning the coupling - misalignment is what kills them, and it will kill the replacement too
  • Inspect the gearbox input splines while the coupling is out
