- Oil weeping or running from a union or from the pipe itself
- Oil pressure low or unsteady
- Oil film or spray on surfaces below the pipe run
- Pipe found chafed, kinked or split on inspection
- Union faces or threads found damaged on removal

- Renew the sealing washers or O-rings at the unions whenever the pipe is disturbed
- Check the pipe's clipping and route so it cannot chafe against the engine
