  • Vibration through the hull that rises with shaft speed
  • Knock or clunk on taking up drive or on a gear change
  • Splines found worn, fretted or twisted on strip-down
  • Shaft found bent or running out when it is checked
  • Seal running surface worn into a groove, so the seal will not hold

  • Plan the lift - at 42.0 kg the shaft needs proper support while it is fitted
  • Renew the seals it runs in and check the seal running surfaces before assembly
  • Check the alignment of the drive before and after fitting - misalignment will destroy the new shaft as it did the old one
