🔌 Function

Cranks the engine to start it, engaging the flywheel ring gear and releasing once it fires.

⚠️ Common Signs of Failure

  • Slow cranking or no crank at all
  • Solenoid clicking without the motor turning
  • Grinding on engagement from worn pinion or ring gear teeth
  • Starter staying engaged after the engine fires
  • Brushes worn or the commutator burnt

🛠️ Service Notes

  • Check battery voltage and cable connections first — volt drop produces every symptom of a failing starter
  • A remanufactured unit is catalogued against this fitment and is usually the cheaper route
  • Inspect the flywheel ring gear teeth whenever a starter has failed
