Joins the hose to the component it feeds, giving a sealed spigot for the hose and clip to clamp onto.

- Coolant weeping or crusting where the hose meets the connection
- Spigot corroded, pitted or scored so the hose will not seal
- Thread or flange corroded in the housing
- Connection cracked, usually at the base of the spigot
- Scale narrowing the bore and choking flow
