🔌 Function

Turns the exhaust flow out of the manifold or turbocharger into the exhaust system, and on a water-cooled elbow mixes cooling water into the gas stream.

⚠️ Common Signs of Failure

• Exhaust leak, soot marks or a puffing sound at the joints
• Water dripping from the elbow or its joints
• Passages restricted by carbon and salt on strip-down
• Corrosion or cracking of the elbow body
• Overheating traced to a blocked exhaust passage

🛠️ Service Notes

• Renew the gaskets and use new nuts on the exhaust flange, since heat-cycled fasteners rarely come off twice
• Check the exhaust hose and the injection point downstream while the elbow is off, as restriction there is what usually cooks the elbow
