Opens to release the burnt gases from the cylinder and then seals the port against combustion pressure, running far hotter than the inlet valve alongside it.

  • Compression down on one cylinder with hard starting
  • Misfire or rough running that does not clear when warm
  • Ticking valve gear with clearances drifting closed
  • Seat face burnt, pitted or with a notch in the margin
  • Stem worn or gummed in the guide, giving side play

  • Check the guide, the stem seal and the seat insert at the same time - a burnt exhaust valve is usually a symptom of a poor seat or a tight clearance
  • Reset valve clearances after fitting
  • The inlet valve in this range, 3827180 at 0.127 kg, is a lighter and different part - do not interchange them
