Bleeds trapped air from the high point of the cooling circuit back to the expansion tank, so the system fills completely and stays free of air pockets.

⚠️ Common Signs of Failure

  • Air repeatedly gathering in the cooling system
  • Temperature gauge reading erratically or running high after a refill
  • Gurgling from the header tank
  • Pipe blocked with scale, or kinked
  • Coolant weeping at the vent pipe connections

🛠️ Service Notes

  • Check the pipe is clear before fitting - a blocked vent pipe gives exactly the same symptoms as a head gasket pushing gas into the coolant
  • Bleed the system fully after fitting, with the vent line highest
