  • Coolant weeping from the joint face despite retightening
  • Sealing face pitted, corroded or scored
  • Cover warped so it will not pull down flat
  • Cracks around the fixing holes
  • Crusted coolant deposits building up along the joint

  • Fit a new gasket or O-ring and pull the bolts down evenly in a diagonal pattern rather than round the edge
  • Clean the housing face back to sound metal before assembly, since corrosion there will keep the new cover leaking
