🔌 Function

Encloses the valve gear and seals the top of the cylinder head against oil loss.

⚠️ Common Signs of Failure

  • Oil weeping down the side of the head from the cover joint
  • Oil smell or smoke where oil has reached the hot exhaust
  • Cover gasket flattened, hardened or displaced
  • Cover cracked, or its sealing flange distorted
  • Breather passages fouled with oil sludge

🛠️ Service Notes

  • Fit a new gasket and tighten evenly to specification - overtightening distorts the flange and causes fresh leaks
  • Clean the breather passages while the cover is off
  • If your engine is a D2-40A or D2-40B, 3840858 is the cover listed against it
